Bioidentical Hormones-The Oprah Show

For any of you who missed the Oprah show recently, the discussion was around bioidentical vs. synthetic hormones.  Menopause is finally a "hot" topic now and getting the attention it deserves.

I don't see shame around it as Oprah was saying, I see ignorance. That is why it is so important for you to educate yourself.

We all need to take control of our own health. You are in control of what goes into your body. This is a part of the wisdom of menopause!

For many decades, the information for women to be on HRT (hormone replacement therapy) has been up and down.  It's good, it's bad. It's nowonder there is so much confusion.

The changes in the hormone levels during this time are causing the symptoms we experience during perimenopause.  They are trying to become stable with the levels of hormones they now have to work with.  And when settled, some women never need any assistance with additional hormone balancing.  I am one who ended up choosing not to go on HRT when it was recommended to me by my doctor.

The bioidentical hormones are produced using soy and yams and they are exactly like what we find in our own bodies.

The synthetic hormones, (the HRT that has been used for decades) uses horse urine and progestin to produce the hormones and they do not match anything in our bodies.

In her book, The Hormone Solution, Dr Erika Schwartz says, "You must understand it has been proven that once broken down in our bodies, conjugated equine (Premarin) becomes toxic to the DNA that keeps us healthy or makes us sick."

Which sounds better to you?

It is always recoommended to work with a Health Practitioner and have your levels checked as the first step. Don't think this can be done just by ordering over the internet.
