Have you noticed little lines and wrinkles around the eyes, mouth and forehead that were not there before?

There are conflicting opinions concerning how much influence the loss of estrogen (during menopause) affects the skin and how much of it is blamed of the fight of gravity for years and years. Some scientists feel that the years leading up to menopause, speed up the process of aging of the skin (collagen and elastin fibers breaking down, causing lines and wrinkles) and others feel it is just going to happen anyway and has nothing to do with menopause and the change in hormones.

Here’s the scoop: as estrogen declines, the collagen and elastin fibers that keep your skin supple, pliant and nicely molded to your bones, does slowly deteriorate.

The breaking down of the collagen and elastin fibers, leave room for wrinkles. Wrinkles show up where muscles contract.

The fatty layer under your skin disappears over time and your skin loses its flexibility, which leads to wrinkles and to a loss of firmness and smoothness to your whole body. The skin becomes thinner and will sag more. As this fatty layer thins out over time, it is easier to see the blood vessels and bruising can happen more easily. Your skin can tear easier than it used to, also.

As a part of normal aging, skin maintenance slows down (the regeneration of cells) and you may heal at a slower rate than when you were younger.

Some things you can do for prevention:

1- Don’t smoke. If you do, get help to quit. It will age you tremendously. A 40-year old (heavy) smoker will look like a 60-year old non-smoker. You may need a Coach to help you implement this change.
2- Drink plenty of water.
3- Do not ever sleep in your make up.
4- Do not use soap on your face.
5- Follow a sensible and regular skin care program.

If you want to use a natural skin care and body care product that has a great track record, uses non-toxic ingredients, is good for the environment and good on your skin, and has a variety of products for the whole family, click on Aubrey Organics.
