Testing of Hormones

Dr. Christiane Northrup says there are blood tests you should consider asking your Doctor for if you suspect your hormones may be out of balance.

  • Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)
"A high FSH, combined with irregular periods, is the best indicator that you have entered perimenopause," Dr. Northrup says.
  • Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH)
"Thyroid problems and menopause often go hand-in-hand," she says.

Dr Northrup also recommends a blood test for testing other hormone levels as estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. The results of these tests can fluctuate for reasons as the time of day and your lifestyle.

The following things can affect hormone levels: are you eating healthy meals, getting enough sleep, limiting caffeine and alcohol?  The best advice is to strive to do these things and stay in tune with your body.
